The drama between Steven Tyler and rapper Nicki Minaj may cool off after the Aerosmith singer issued an apology during a press event today. Then again, judging from the tone of Tyler's comments, things may not simmer. 'American Idol' producers must be loving the free media attention, two months before the new season is set to air on Fox.

"I apologize if it was taken wrong, Nicki," Tyler told Canadian entertainment news show eTalk, turning to the camera to emphasis her first name. "I'm the last thing on this planet as far as being a racist." Minaj had insinuated Tyler's comments about how she'd judge Bob Dylan were racially motivated.

“You assume that I wouldn’t have liked Bob Dylan??? why? black? rapper? what? go f— yourself and worry about yourself babe,” Minaj tweeted on Monday.

Her comments were a reaction to Tyler's questions about the current judging panel. "I was just saying that if Bob Dylan came on the show, he would've been thrown off. Maybe I spoke out of turn, but a racist I'm not, Nicki."
