The founder and singer of the progressive metal band Static X, Wayne Static, passed away over the weekend. He was 48 years old.

Originally thought to be caused by a drug overdose in preliminary reports, new reports are stating the 48 year old Static, who's real name was Wayne Wells, died peacefully in his sleep and not from an apparent drug overdose.

Static X burst on the scene in 1999 with Wisconsin Death Trip which featured probably their most popular song to date "Push It".

Static disbanded Static X in 2011 and was working on a follow up to his debut solo album Pighammer.

We'll keep you posted on details as they are released.
