Six Common Phrases You’ve Probably Been Saying Wrong

I'm a pretty laid back guy. I have very few pet peeves. Lack of common sense being a big pet peeve of mine. There is one other thing that just really gets under my skin and that's people who say common phrases totally wrong. I'll give examples.

"FOR ALL INTENSIVE PURPOSES"...That's usually what people say...However, it makes no sense. The actual phrase is "FOR ALL INTENTS AND PURPOSES".

"TONGUE AND CHEEK"...Another one that gets my goat. The actual phrase is "TONGUE IN CHEEK".

"I COULD CARE LESS"...This one if probably the mother of all mess ups as I hear this most of all of them. This statement implies that you have some compassion for something. If you really wanted to degrade something the correct phrase is "I COULDN'T CARE LESS". That implies that you have no compassion whatsoever. Zero. Zilch. NADA!

"DON'T TAKE IT FOR GRANITE"...This implies that you will be taking something for a rock. Makes no sense. The actual phrase is "DON'T TAKE IT FOR GRANTED". Meaning don't assume something is promised.

"IRREGARDLESS"... This makes no sense on the surface of it. It's a double negative. This word actually began showing up in the 1700's in print. It was wrong then, and it's wrong now. It is listed in the dictionary as how NOT to use a word. No really. Look it up. The actual word is "REGARDLESS".

"ONE IN THE SAME"...I'm not going to go into detail because I could write a paragraph. Just know the actual phrase is "ONE AND THE SAME".

Those are only a few of the many phrases or words people are totally using wrong. Reason why I write this? Well, just today on Facebook (It's only 7am mind you) I've seen no less than 3 of these written incorrectly. Just a heads up. Enjoy your day.
