Search Party was originally supposed to hit theaters back in 2014, which means it’s been a few years since T.J. Miller, Thomas Middleditch and Adam Pally got together to film this raunchy comedy. Since then, Miller and Middleditch have appeared on two seasons (going on three) of Silicon Valley, while Search Party has sat on a shelf at Universal. Not for much longer, as the first trailer for the long-delayed film has arrived, red-banded for your viewing pleasure.

Search Party is the directorial debut of Scot Armstrong, best known for scripting similarly R-rated comedies like Old School, Road Trip and The Hangover: Part II. Basically, he clearly has a type: dudes, drinking and debauchery. So, yes, Search Party looks like more of the same, only with newer funny guys — just as Bradley Cooper and Zach Galifianakis replaced Vince Vaughn and Luke Wilson before them, so must the circle of drunken male-centric comedic life go on.

Here’s the (quite lengthy) synopsis for Search Party, in which Middleditch plays a character named — I am not making this up — “Nardo”:

Wedding bells threaten to break up three best friends’ long-running bromance, but they aren’t going down without a fight in Search Party, the directing debut of screenwriter Scot Armstrong (The Hangover Part II, Old School). Convinced that his buddy Nardo (Thomas Middleditch) is making the mistake of a lifetime by marrying Tracy (Shannon Woodward), Jason (T.J. Miller) puts a dramatic end to their wedding. When the furious bride decides to take her Baja honeymoon solo, Nardo follows her south of the border—where the lovesick groom is carjacked and left stranded, naked and penniless in a remote part of the Mexican desert. With no one else to call for help, Nardo sends out an SOS to Jason and their pal Evan (Adam Pally), an up-and-coming ad exec slated for an all-important business meeting the next morning. As Jason and a reluctant Evan rush to Nardo’s rescue, the trio embarks on a series of increasingly outrageous misadventures involving con artists, drug smugglers and even the Federales in this wild and wacky action comedy.

These are some really funny guys, so it’ll be a shame if Search Party was delayed because it’s not very good, but it definitely feels like Universal is releasing it now to capitalize on their increased fame — is it any coincidence that it hits theaters just a few weeks after Silicon Valley Season 3 debuts on HBO?

Search Party also stars other really funny people like Jason Mantzoukas, Krysten Ritter and Alison Brie, and will finally arrive in theaters on May 13.
