Sammy Hagar has built a career out of loud 'n' proud rock 'n' roll, but it sounds like now he's ready to dial down the volume -- at least temporarily.

As he explained in a recent interview, Hagar's next solo tour could offer fans the chance to hear his hits in a whole new musical light. As he put it, "I'm determined to be able to play a whole hour to an hour and a half show by myself with an acoustic guitar."

Of course, it isn't as simple as just grabbing a guitar and walking out on stage. "I’m working on it really hard, and it calls for a lot of old songs having to be restructured," Hagar explained. "You can’t sing a heavy rock tune with an acoustic guitar the same way you would do it with a band. So, I’m taking the songs that lend themselves to that, and I’m changing keys and tempos and stuff. I’m working really hard on it, because I really want it to be great."

Once he has the arrangements mapped out, Hagar has to solve the problem of logistics -- as in who's going to come out to hear the set and where he'll be able to play it. "I don’t know where I’m going to do it," he admitted. "I don’t even have a plan -- I just decided in my head that something I want to do is go out and play a real intimate show somewhere. I don’t think I’d go on tour, and I don’t think I would do it in Cabo Wabo either, because Cabo Wabo is such a party place. I’m telling you, this is the freshest information I have. I don’t know where I want to do it, but I want to find a nice theater somewhere and I want to go there and I want to do this, and have a few people accompany me. So, this is what I’ve been doing -- it’s my newest project, musically."
