The Rock world was greatly affected by the death last May of Ronnie James Dio from cancer but the  bottom line is that it could have been prevented.

According to an interview with Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler, if Ronnie had seen a doctor sooner, he could have been treated. In an interview with noisecreep.com, Geezer said that Heaven & Hell members Tony Iommi and Vinnie Appice had undergone routine colonoscopies, and had complained about the procedure, and Ronnie said he would never do that.

Having recently reached the age where men need to start thinking about such things, I too recently had the procedure done, and I'm glad I did. Yes, the prep for the procedure is not a lot of fun, (it's basically just drinking a tone of liquid over a certain number of hours, and spending a lot of time on the john, so have reading material handy) but it is necessary, and it's worth it in the long run.

Plus, under normal circumstances, you only have to have it done every 10 years, so it's a hell of a lot better than the alternative, isn't it? Who knows, maybe by the time I need to have it done again, they'll come up with an easier way! One can hope, right?
