Rolling Stones ‘Practicing,’ But Charlie Watts Hesitant on Confirming Future Plans

The good news is that the Rolling Stones members are definitely spending a lot of time together in each other’s orbit, but they may not exactly be on the same page. After guitarist Keith Richards stated earlier this week that the band had been rehearsing for what will likely be their 50th Anniversary Tour, drummer Charlie Watts had a different version of what’s going on.

The musician told Rolling Stone magazine that while the band has been “practicing,” he insisted that no official plans have been made for their return. He added, “We’ve been playing, not rehearsing.”

Guitarist Ronnie Wood utilized the same phrasing, explaining, “We had a good play in New York a few weeks ago. We did 50 songs in five days. It was brilliant.”

The Rolling Stones members turned out together to check out the 50th Anniversary photo exhibition taking place in London. While in a reflective mood due to the nature of the evening, singer Mick Jagger added, “It feels really good if a little long … in the tooth! It’s quite surprising. It does seem like a long time, but I’m really happy about it.”

The exhibition drew former Rolling Stones members Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor, as well as lyricist Tim Rice and musical pals Mick Hucknall of Simply Red and Roxy Music‘s Phil Manzanera. It will run through Aug. 27 at Somerset House in London, and coincides with the release of the ‘Rolling Stones 50′ photo book.
