Rolling Stones Release Live Club Show Bootleg

Prior to kicking off major tours, the Rolling Stones like to play an intimate club date to get a feel for an audience once again. Eleven days before the 2005 Bigger Bang tour began the rockers piled into the Phoenix Concert Theater in Toronto to play new music and test a few covers on fans. That show is now available for download at the band’s archive website.

Guitarist Keith Richards says the band always liked the venue. “It’s always been a good town to us, and especially to me,” he says in the promotional video below, before bending down for another puff on his cigarette and adding “They got me out of jail.”

“If we can pull it off in a club, than we can pull it off anywhere.”

Highlights from the 15-song setlist include famous Stones songs like ‘Brown Sugar’ and ‘Dead Flowers,’ but also covers of Otis Redding’s ‘Mr. Pitiful’ and Bob Marley’s ‘Get Up Stand Up.’

Richards says cover songs depend on Mick Jagger. “When Mick’s feeling adventurous, it means he’s confident in the band and everything is set and ready to go, which I certainly think he was that night.”

The Bigger Bang tour began on Aug. 21, 2005 at Fenway Park in Boston, Mass and ended in August 2007 at the O2 Arena in London. In addition to clips of all 15 songs on the bootleg, fans will find video of many songs from that night (Aug. 10) at the archive site. Included in each clip is commentary from Richards, Jagger and company.
