Rock and Roll Hall of Fame CEO Talks KISS Drama, Keeps Potential Nirvana Performance Quiet

With the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony coming up on April 10, there has been a whirlwind of controversy and speculation. From the inner turmoil involving the current and former members of KISS, to a potential performance from surviving members of Nirvana, many questions were recently asked to Rock Hall CEO Joel Peresman.

Recently, Peresman made headlines by defending the Roll Hall’s decision to not induct current KISS members Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer. “(Thayer and Singer) are fine musicians who … basically have the same makeup and are the same characters that Ace and Peter started,” Peresman told Billboard. “It’s not like they created these other characters with different makeup and playing different songs. They took the persona of characters that were created by Ace and Peter.”

In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Peresman addressed the Hall’s pseudo-feud with KISS, namely Paul Stanley. “I don’t like all the sniping back and forth, though mostly it’s been forth,” says Peresman. “And I totally understand his point of view. What he’s [Stanley’s] failing to understand is that there are certain acts that are nominated and brought in on their entire body of work, up until the day before the nominating committee meets. They are still evolving bands that are breaking new ground. With Kiss, there wasn’t a single person we spoke to that didn’t feel the reason these guys were being inducted was because of the four original members.”

Peresman also spoke about the various performances set for the 2014 ceremony, but plans for Nirvana’s induction remain a tightly guarded secret. However, Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic hinted that he would pick up the bass at the Barclays Center during the Rock Hall event.

The Rock Hall CEO seemingly backed up the idea that a Nirvana performance of some kind would happen, stating, “With the exception of Linda Ronstadt and KISS, everyone is performing.” He went on to detail each of the performances, but conspicuously left out mention of what Nirvana were planning.

The 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be broadcast via HBO on May 31. For all your up-to-date Rock Hall news, stay tuned to Loudwire.
