Restaurant Owner’s Facebook Post About Tossing Kids From Eatery Incites Scandal

Rainy MacDuff

All of the sudden, kids eating in restaurants is a hot topic.

In the latest example of an eatery not catering to kids, the owner of a café in Lake Stevens, Washington has found herself in the middle of a controversy because of the way she criticized a customer who brought her children in to eat.

Rainy MacDuff, who owns Rainy Days Caffe, asked two mothers to leave her establishment after one of their kids threw a temper tantrum. She then took a picture of the crumbs left on the floor when they left and posted it on Facebook (although it has since been removed).

MacDuff wrote, “I’d like to take this time to thank our customers with small children who don’t make messes.”

That comment sparked an intense dialogue on the restaurant’s Facebook page, with several people writing they would boycott Rainy Days and some going so far as to threaten her with physical violence.

MacDuff eventually backed down, taking to Facebook again to apologize by writing, “It was not right to do that and I am deeply sorry for any embarrassment it might have caused anyone.”

And in the spirit of good PR, MacDuff has also donated money to a local charity and asked the mothers involved in the incident to come back — on the condition they don’t bring their children.
