Phish has earned a reputation for peppering its set lists with left-field covers over the years, and the band held true to form during its 2012 New Year's Eve show on Dec. 31, treating the audience to Phish-ified versions of hits by Black Sabbath and the Steve Miller Band.

Of course, Phish being Phish, it isn't like this was a night full of covers. In fact, the Dec. 31 gig came at the end of a run of four sold-out shows at Madison Square Garden, all of which featured double sets that included little if any overlap from night to night. But fans have come to expect something special from the band when it's New Year's Eve, and as Antiquiet reports, this year was no different; as the clock wound down toward midnight, the stage was covered with golf carts, strippers, and midgets -- and then things got really crazy, with an end-of-the-night stretch that found them trotting out Miller's 'Fly Like an Eagle' before closing the show with Sabbath's 'Iron Man.'

There doesn't seem to be any video available for the Miller-inspired portion of the evening, but if you've ever wondered what it might be like to ring in the New Year with some guys from Vermont adding their signature jam-band spin to a Sabbath classic, this embedded clip is for you.
