Opeth Perform Acoustic Set at Newbury Comics for Record Store Day 2013

For Opeth frontman Mikael Akerfeldt, every day is Record Store Day, but for the actual April 20 holiday this year, Opeth traveled to Newbury Comics in Leominster, Mass., for an awesome acoustic performance.

Opeth are a very special breed of band, and have plenty of material that works in both electric and acoustic settings. Before Opeth’s headlining slot during the second day of the 2013 New England Metal and Hardcore Festival, the band pulled off a much more intimate set at Newbury Comics. For the Swedish act’s Record Store Day appearance, Opeth performed ‘Credence,’ ‘Hope Leaves,’ ‘Atonement,’ ‘Haxprocess’ and ‘Demon of the Fall’ for a small, but impassioned audience.

Akerfeldt brought his signature dry wit to the acoustic performance, introducing Opeth before drifting into ‘Credence.’ “We’re called Opeth,” Akerfeldt begins. “We only knew about this a couple of days ago, so we rehearsed a couple of songs as there were grindcore bands playing downstairs. We’re going to play a couple of songs; nothing fancy.”

Bands don’t come much tighter than Opeth, as each individual member displayed masterful musicianship for the Newbury Comics crowd. Akerfeldt’s hauntingly beautiful voice resonates through your computer while watching the footage, and this performance is an event all die-hard Opeth fans need to watch.
