Those who tuned into the Sunday political discussion shows were undoubtedly made aware of the existence of Jay Sekulow, a lawyer and conservative talk show host who recently joined the legal team of President Donald Trump. Those who searched the internet to learn more about him in the aftermath realized that he has a self-named band, and that one of its singers is John Elefante, who fronted Kansas for a spell in the early '80s.

The news comes via Spin, who discovered that Sekulow plays both guitar and drums in the band, and that John Schlitt, who spent 20 years as the lead singer of Christian rock band Petra, is also in the group. You can see Elefante singing lead on Kansas' hit "Dust in the Wind" above and an original tune featuring Schlitt called "Undemocratic" below.

Elefante joined Kansas in 1982 when original lead singer Steve Walsh left. He was in the band for two studio albums, 1982's Vinyl Confessions and Drastic Measures a year later. After recording one song, "Perfect Lover," for a 1984 compilation, Kansas broke up, but reunited with Walsh in 1986.

Walsh's departure in 2014 resulted in the band calling Elefante to see if he was interested in rejoining, but, he said, "as with any big decision in my life, I find it most important for myself, my family and friends to turn to prayer. On Friday (July 4), God had swiftly answered these prayers but His response was not what I was expecting, which was a definitive closing of the door.”
