Nik Turner -- whose flute, saxophone, vocals and compositions helped define Hawkwind's early success -- is hitting the road with a brand new solo LP.

Titled 'Space Gypsy,' the new album finds Turner working with a diverse array of musicians, including fellow Hawkwind vet Simon House on violin, Gong guitarist Steve Hillage and Jurgen Engler of German industrial band Die Krupps. The LP is preceded by the first single 'Fallen Angel STS-51-L,' which was inspired by the Challenger space shuttle disaster and which Turner describes as "the epitome of epiphanic, orgasmic, cathartic embodiment of my space dreams [becoming] one man's reality, exploding into space."

The new album, out now, comes in a variety of configurations, including a gatefold vinyl package that includes a special seven-inch single and a limited-edition box housing a bonus CD of non-album material.

Turner has also announced a series of North American tour dates, starting Oct. 9 and running through mid-November. Have a look at the complete list below, and check out the video for 'Fallen Angel STS-51-L' above.
