While we wait for the first official trailer for Assassin’s Creed, Ubisoft has released a new image from Justin Kurzel’s adaptation of the hit game series, giving us another look at Michael Fassbender’s Callum Lynch. Like one of the previously released stills, this one features Lynch in a prison cell, this time tending to some charcoal drawings which may be connected to his time spent accessing genetic memories of his ancestor.

Ubisoft revealed the new image on their official blog, and though it doesn’t appear to offer much at first glance, a closer look allows us to see some of the drawings Fassbender is working on. Click the image below for the larger version:

In the film, Fassbender’s Lynch uses a new technology to access his genetic memories and live as his 15th century ancestor Aguilar, a member of a shadowy organization of assassins who have been embroiled in a secret war with the nefarious Templar for centuries. Using the skills and knowledge he acquires in the past, Lynch carries on his ancestor’s legacy to continue the fight in the present.

Fassbender reunites with his Macbeth director Justin Kurzel and co-star Marion Cotillard for the upcoming video game adaptation, which also stars Michael K. Williams, Jeremy Irons, Ariane Labed and Brendan Gleeson:

Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain.  Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.

Assassin’s Creed hits theaters on December 21.
