Cam Newton threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Ted Ginn Jr. with 59 seconds to play, and the Carolina Panthers beat the New England Patriots, 24-20, in Charlotte on Monday night. With his team trailing 20-17, Newton found Ginn with a short pass, and the speedy receiver turned it into the score that gave Carolina (7-3) the win over New England (7-3).

The Patriots drove inside the Panthers' 20-yard line in the final minute, but Tom Brady's pass on the game's final play was intercepted by safety Robert Lester. An official threw a flag when it appeared intended receiver Rob Gronkowski had been interfered with, but the referees waved off the penalty to end the game.

Newton finished with 209 passing yards and three touchdowns for Carolina. He added 62 rushing yards on seven carries.

Brady passed for 296 yards and a score for New England.
