Mixed martial artist Kevin Ferguson, better known to the world as Kimbo Slice, has died at the age of 42.

Slice was hospitalized on Monday for undisclosed reasons close to his home in South Florida. The world discovered Kimbo on the Internet thanks to his series of backyard fights that went viral in the mid 2000s. Slice was a member of the Bellator roster and was scheduled to headline Bellator 158 on July 16th against James Thompson.

Preliminary reports suggest Kimbo passed away due to heart failure.

He last fought at Bellator 149 on Feb. 19 in Houston. He defeated Dhafir Harris, aka Dada5000, in a three-round decision. The result was later changed to a no-contest by the Texas commission, after Slice tested positive for anabolic steroids and an elevated testosterone ratio.
