Metallica‘s Kirk Hammett loves horror films. So much so that he’s dedicated a good portion of his disposable income over the years to building his own collection of memorabilia.

Hammett is ready to share his love of the genre in a big way for the rest of the year. First, fans will get a chance to see some of his favorite items at the “Kirk’s Crypt” display at the Orion Music + More festival taking place this Saturday and Sunday at Bader Field in Atlantic City, N.J. Then, this fall, he’ll publish his first book, ‘Too Much Horror Business – the Kirk Hammett Collection.’

The book is due in October via Abrams Image, and it documents all things horror. The 228-page hardback coffee table book features over 300 full color images of Kirk’s private collection, with photography done by Mark Leialoha and Joe Gibbs. In addition, Hammett had a sit down with writer Steffan Chirazi, who went in depth with the guitarist about the importance of collecting since his childhood. Hammett also offered a number of his own handwritten captions for the pieces featured in the book.

The guitarist says, “This is my gift to all the other horror nerds out there who are just like me. It’s been made with great love for all the many characters and movies which guided me through childhood, into adulthood and which still keep me on track today.” Book pre-orders are currently underway here.

In addition to the book, Hammett plans on producing collectible items through his Kirk Von Hammett line. Each of the toys will be strictly limited edition pieces, with the first ones being made available Oct. 1 at the KVH Toys website. “I’ve spent my life collecting toys, so what could be more fun than making a series of toys which indulge my childhood fantasies and which people can collect,” says Hammett. “It’s more about fulfilling a huge ambition than anything else, and I hope I get the first one!”
