In advance of this weekend’s Orion Music + More Festival, Metallica held a press conference to discuss the two-day event, which will take place at Bader Field in Atlantic City, N.J. Metallica will headline both nights and play ‘Ride the Lightning’ in its entirety tonight (June 23) and the ‘Black Album’ tomorrow.

James Hetfield spoke about the impetus for the festival. “We’ve been doing festivals for 30 years and we kind of know what we like and don’t like…and we’ve seen what other people have tried to do and wanted to do it better.”

The festival’s undercard and other stages will feature not only established bands like hardcore and metal bands Suicidal Tendencies and Sepultura, but also indie acts like Best Coast, Cage the Elephant and two of the Garden State’s finest rising stars, Titus Andronicus and the Gaslight Anthem. Hetfield believes the diversity will make for a better experience for the crowd.

“It just seems like most of the time you’re doing one style of music or it’s all kind of crazy, different styles,” he continued. “So we wanted to get somewhere kind of in the middle. You’ve got the different stages that have a little different stuff to offer.”
