Metallica Discuss ‘Through the Never’ Film + Perform Classic Tracks on ‘The Colbert Report’
Last night (Sept. 24), Metallica made a rare television appearance by gracing the set of Comedy Central’s ‘The Colbert Report.’ Promoting their new 3D concert film ‘Metallica: Through the Never,’ the four horsemen sat down for a hilarious interview with Stephen Colbert before performing ‘Master of Puppets’ and ‘For Whom the Bell Tolls.’
This appearance is a dream come true for countless people, as metal’s most successful band sits down with one of television’s most sidesplittingly funny and beloved personalities. “My guests tonight are going to be loud, so deal with it grandpa!” Colbert yelled before making his trademark run to the four interviewees.
After welcoming his guests, Stephen stuck his probes into the band, asking what exactly ‘Through the Never’ means before suggesting revised titles such as ‘Next to the Always’ and ‘Under the Sometimes.’ Metallica kept joking with Colbert throughout the interview, with frontman James Hetfield even jesting about a mysterious third testicle, a subject which came up an additional few times during the segment.
In a recent interview with The Telegraph, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich commented on ‘Through the Never’ getting mixed reviews so far. “So far, everybody’s got a different opinion about it, which is great, because if there’s anything we love in this band, it’s ambiguity. We’re not trying to force some next-level message down your throat. Without sounding too artsy, the best art is handed to you to do with what you want.”
As of this posting, ‘Through the Never’ holds a 92 percent “fresh” score on Rotten Tomatoes with an average rating of 6.9 out of 10.
