Megadeth's Dave Mustaine is open to new things, as recently spotlighted when he revealed that he would play with the San Diego Symphony in 2014. But the metal icon just revealed his fandom for an artist you'd never expect -- Kenny G. The thrash master recently attended one of the saxophonist's performances at San Diego's Copley Symphony Hall and had glowing reviews concerning the experience.

Mustaine tells UTSanDiego.com in a video interview (posted below), "Most people listen to Kenny and they think about his popular stuff and you know, he's just so much better when he's allowed to do his thing. I left a Kenny G fan watching him cause he shredded, absolutely shredded."

The guitar great says his presence at the show was known in advance, as an invite was extended if he had interest in joining Kenny onstage. However, Mustaine passed on the invitation, explaining, "I have no idea what you guys are doing, I need at least one practice. C'mon. I mean I could get up and do 'Welcome to the Jungle' or some crap like that, but I can't go and do some of these classical songs that I've never heard before or haven't heard for a long time."

Instead, the night's featured performer introduced Mustaine in the audience. Dave says, "It was such a gentlemanly thing, he introduced me to the audience. He said, 'You guys have a real treat here in the audience tonight,' and I'm looking around and thinking, 'Alright, who's here?' And then he introduced me and I'm like, 'Uhhh,' and I stood up and I'm like, 'Hi!' I've never had that happen to me before."

Mustaine says he's looking forward to his own collaboration with the San Diego Symphony next year, but is well aware it could be an odd fit. He says, "Going into the symphony, part of my mind's going, 'Well there's going to be guys who are probably really excited to play with me and other people's butts are gonna grow together because I'm going to be out of tune in a couple of spots or I might hit a couple of Jimi Hendrix-type notes, if you know what I mean."

Before the Megadeth leader strays to test out his symphonic pursuits next year, he and his band will release their 'Super Collider' album in June.
