Texas A&M Health Science Center and DeTar Healthcare System announced a partnership earlier this year that established a family medicine residency program in Victoria. This past July the three-year program accepted its first six residents. The curriculum will encourage participants to continue practicing in the area. The first class of residents recruited will be led by Dr. Sidney Ontai, director of DeTar Family Medicine Residency and assistant professor at the Texas A&M College of Medicine. For a physician to practice medicine they must go through three years of training in their desired specialty called residency. These physicians chose the DeTar Family Medicine Center to start their career. The residents will complete their training in June 2019. DeTar received more than 1,000 applications.

Daniel Espinosa was one of the residents that was accepted. Daniel Espinosa, MD was born in Ecuador. He moved to Victoria, Texas when he was young. His father, Dr. Fabian Espinosa, is an independent member of the medical staff at the DeTar Healthcare System. Dr. Espinosa graduated from St. Joseph High School here in Victoria and was a Psychology major at Texas A&M University and went to medical school at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in association with New York Medical College.  He enjoys being outdoors including riding jet skis, mountain bike trails, and running. He loves being a part of the 12th man at Aggie football games. Daniel wants to use the experiences that he gains in residency to evolve both as a physician and a person as a whole. He is happy to be back in his hometown serving the community of Victoria.  He credits his family and his faith as his driving force and support.

We wish Dr. Espinosa the best. He will be live on air with us Tuesday morning.
