Malaysian Officials Seek to Ban Lamb of God’s Upcoming Show, Calling Band ‘Satanic’ + ‘Evil’
Lamb of God are currently scheduled to perform in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Sept. 28, but in response, the Department of Islamic Development of Malaysia is protesting the band's visit. The department's director-general, Datuk Othman Mustapha, spoke out against Lamb of God, calling the pure American metal group "satanic" while claiming that the concert will corrode morality and the faith of Muslims.
Those familiar with Lamb of God obviously understand that the band isn't evil in any way, shape or form. In fact, vocalist Randy Blythe became somewhat of a beacon for bravery and justice by returning to the Czech Republic to defend himself against questionable manslaughter charges, even though he could have easily sought asylum here in the U.S.
Despite Lamb of God's many positive characteristics, Mustapha is firmly against Lamb of God's Malaysian visit. “Lamb of God had drawn many controversies and was dubbed a 'satanic' band that fitted evil spirituality and anti-godliness even by the Christian community,” Mustapha said in a statement according to the New Straits Times. “The organizing of such events do not only corrode morality but also the faith of Muslims. Performances by heavy metal outfits that were often extreme also encouraged its audience to lose control.”
On Aug. 29, it was reported that Ikatan Rakyat Insan Muslim Malaysia (IRIMM) President Amir Amsaa Alla Pitchay is planning to submit a memorandum to various ministries in the hope to ban Lamb of God from performing.
Meanwhile, in other Lamb of God news, Randy Blythe has been protesting a shift in Canadian law that will charge international touring artists $425 per band member per performance. This is a substantial raise in cost, as the original fee was a one-time payment of $150.
For some insane reason the Canadian government has decided to enact absolutely ridiculous fees for foreign touring acts to enter their country. To tell you the truth, this will not affect a band the size of lamb of god that much- promoters make enough money off of us to figure this expense into the cost of bringing us to Canada- we do very well there, & fill every venue we play.
But for smaller acts who wish to tour Canada, those just getting their start, this will make it absolutely impossible- smaller booking agents can’t afford $425 per band member per show to bring in acts from outside Canada.
I have absolutely no idea why they would do this, since touring bands already have to pay taxes out the wazoo in Canada anyway. Now they will not be able to come, the venues lose money, the fans don’t get to see shows, the businesses around the venues lose money, the government will get NO TAX instead of their normal cut from touring artists, & most important the music & arts scene suffers. WTF? It makes zero sense.
