We haven’t heard a word from Lou Reed & Metallica in awhile — and just when we were starting to think we had heard from them for the last time out comes this from the “Loutallica” camp: the Darren Aronofsky-directed video for the first ‘Lulu’ single, ‘The View.’

The clip, which had its world premiere this morning at 10 AM ET on the joint group’s official website here and on IFC.com here, features live performance footage shot in grainy black-and-white film, with odd-angled close-ups and blurred-focus shots edited together with more standard-format footage to visually stunning effect.

For all the flack ‘Lulu’ has received, the ‘View’ is actually a pretty cool and high-energy video. Metallica head-bang their way through most of it, Reed delivers his obtusely perverted lead lyrics with a halo-like glow surrounding him and everybody actually seems to be having a damn good time doing their thing.

Aronofsky, who is perhaps best known for the Oscar-nominated films ‘Black Swan’ and ‘The Wrestler,’ has managed to do what seemed in certain circles almost impossible: he has captured “Loutallica” in a positive light.  “The first time I heard ‘The View’ I was stunned,” raves the director in a press release. “I had never heard anything like it. Half was all Lou. The other half all Metallica … It’s so original and that’s why I wanted to work on it.”

Metallica’s Lars Ulrich adds: “To have a song like ‘The View’ visualized through the eyes and magic touch of Darren Aronofsky is beyond my wildest dream. The marriage between images, music, and words in this video is indescribably thrilling and I am so next level psyched to be involved in a project that brings together the creative minds of Darren Aronofsky, Lou Reed … and The ‘Tallica.”

There, we admit it: we like this video. And yes, we are ready for the inevitable  backlash against that bold statement. Go ahead and check it out below and then tell us what you think.
