Living With Lupus. My Personal Struggle. Vol 9. I Weigh How Much?!?
In this weeks installment I'm going to talk about how good I've felt the last few weeks. I think I'm finally on my way to remission which couldn't make me happier. I still have Iron Deficient Anemia that I'm dealing with but I'll take that over a Lupus flare any day of the week.
I have been having some stomach discomfort which I can almost certainly chalk up to Prednisone. Ah yes, the words no person with an autoimmune disorder wants to hear...."I"m putting you on Prednisone". Prednisone is a powerful steroid with many side effects. It helps bring you out of a Lupus flare but with a cost. Stomach issues, sleeplessness, and the one that hit me like a truck....weight gain.
I've gained over 30 pounds in about a month. I haven't changed anything about my eating habits and I was told I can exercise until my legs fall off and until I'm off the Prednisone, the weight is going to stay put. A lot of it is water weight which will fall off quickly once I stop taking the devil's pill but the bad thing is...I can't just stop. I have to be weened off slowly to prevent damage to my liver/kidneys or Pancreas. I started out on a high dosage while I was in the hospital back in June and I was on 40mg for the longest time. Now, I've been weened down to 30mg daily and as of this coming Saturday, I will be down to 25mg daily. Decreasing my dosage by 5mg every 3 weeks until I'm no longer on it. Can't wait for that day to come.
Well that's all I got for this week. Remember, just because someone doesn't look sick, doesn't mean they're not. Thanks for following along and as usual...welcome to my life with Lupus.
Take Care!
