Duran Duran fans are getting a peek into the band's past with the digital release of Girls on Film 1979 Demo, a four-song EP unearthing early recordings with former lead singer Andy Wickett.

Out now, the EP includes a number of performances of interest to longtime Duran fans, including an early version of the future hit single "Girls on Film" that's quite a bit different from the one that ended up in heavy rotation after being re-recorded for the band's self-titled 1981 debut, as well as "See Me Repeat Me," a song that would later grow into the Duran Duran hit "Rio."

"It is important for people to understand the true origins of the song ‘Girls on Film’ and to hear the edgy sound that Duran Duran had in the beginning," says Wickett in a press release. "This song was inspired by the dark side of the glitz and glamour, where these perfect idols suffered tragedy and addiction. The film Sunset Boulevard was also a big influence with its tale of a fading movie star."

Girls on Film 1979 Demo arrives at an opportune time for Wickett, who's releasing his new solo album Creatures of Love in March. Listen to the entire EP above, and visit Wickett's official site for samples of the work he's done since leaving Duran Duran as well as pre-order links and more information about his new music.
