If you weren't among those catching the Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck documentary at Sundance, in Berlin or even at South By Southwest this week, there's still a shot that you can see it in theaters before it screens via HBO on May 4.

The highly anticipated Brett Morgen-filmed documentary will receive a theatrical run in New York, Los Angeles and Seattle starting April 24. According to Billboard, the film is also expected to show in a total of 72 countries beginning April 10. "Within 90 days, the whole world will have access to the film," states Morgen.

It should be pointed out that with the theatrical screening, Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck will now qualify for a potential Academy Award nomination. A trailer for the film already has generated quite a buzz, and in the promo, familiar faces like Nirvana's Krist Novoselic, Courtney Love, Cobain's mother and ex-girlfriend are interviewed. We also get a look at some of Kurt's home movies, old photos, journal entries and extra animation that's used to tell Cobain's story. Revisit that trailer here.

As previously reported, there will also be some new music in the film. Morgen recently tweeted that he was listening to "a mind-blowing 12-minute acoustic Cobain unheard track" that's expected to be part of the film.

If you're not able to make it to Los Angeles, New York, Seattle or any of the international cities where the film is screening, Montage of Heck will air via HBO on May 4 and a DVD release is planned for November.
