Judas Priest Offer Studio Update on New Album + Live ‘Epitaph’ DVD

Judas Priest
Mary Ouellette,
Judas Priest spent much of 2012 reflecting on the past with the 30th anniversary of their landmark ‘Screaming for Vengeance’ taking most of the headlines. But the time has come to focus on the present, and a new update via the band’s website confirms that the group is in fact working on new music.

The posting reads, “The guys are working in the studio on their new album — and all is going really well!” The message also went on to reveal that the band’s live ‘Epitaph’ DVD and Blu-Ray is almost ready for release and an announcement on an actual street date will be revealed shortly. The statement also concluded, “We’re keeping the sites quiet for now whilst the guys are in the studio — more details to be announced soon.”

The band’s last release was the 2008 concept album, ‘Nostradamus.’ Speaking last fall with Loudwire, frontman Rob Halford stated, “We’ve already got a strong cross-section of ideas, some of them complete, some of them in bits and pieces. It’s shaping up to be quite intense, in terms of the riffage and the strength of certain tracks. Much like every time you try and talk about music, it’s practically impossible to capture it. You can only point it in the direction of where things are shaping up, and it’s just glorious. If I try to pinpoint it, there are elements of ‘British Steel’ and there’s elements of ‘Painkiller’ in terms of the vibe. We’ve got a really solid record coming together slowly in a strong metal way that will make all of our Priest fans around the world very happy and content. At least I hope it does.”

The metal god also stated that unlike the early days, they no longer put a clock on turning around albums and they have the luxury of taking things at their own pace. However, he added that it was his hope that the record would be released in 2013.
