Judas Priest and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young Score New Top 10 Albums

If current sales predictions are on target, next week’s Billboard 200 will make room for new releases from a pair of classic rock acts.

Joining the tally are Judas Priest‘s ‘Redeemer of Souls,’ the band’s first new studio record since the 2008 two-LP concept album ‘Nostradamus,’ and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young‘s ‘CSNY 1974,’ a box set collecting performances and live footage from the quartet’s infamous 1974 tour.

Vintage Vinyl News reports that ‘Redeemer of Souls’ is projected to sell around 31,000 copies, good for a No. 6 placement on the chart, while ‘CSNY 1974′ is reportedly on target to sell 21,500 copies, leaving it with a debut in the 7, 8, or 9 spot. It’s a strong showing for both records, obviously, but one debut is a bigger milestone than the other.

As VVN points out, ‘CSNY 1974′ marks Crosby, Stills & Nash‘s first trip to the Top 10 since 1982′s ‘Daylight Again’ — and they haven’t accomplished the feat with Young in the fold since 1971, when the live release ’4 Way Street’ hit No. 1. Although Young isn’t involved in the upcoming CSN covers album, the box’s healthy sales are bound to help discussions between the band and Rhino, who released ’1974′ and have reportedly expressed interest in the new LP.

Priest, meanwhile, have graced the upper reaches of the charts more recently — ‘Nostradamus’ hit No. 11 — but the ‘Souls’ sales figures serve as further proof that the band remain a reliable top draw for metal fans. With the band set to invade the U.S. for a fall tour, we may be seeing the album moving units for many weeks to come.
