Victoria police were investigating a robbery early Thursday at the Sonic Drive-In restaurant on Houston Highway.

Many details about the crime were not readily available. And it’s unclear whether anyone was hurt during the robbery, which was reported to police at 11:47 p.m. Wednesday.

Sgt. Adam Nieto of the Victoria Police Department said a man wearing a mask held up the restaurant at 3008 Houston Highway and then fled the scene.

He said the man was able to collect a yet undetermined amount of cash from employees. Police are not sure whether the man fled on foot and they didn't know which direction he left. Information about whether the man was armed also was not available.

Nieto said about 12:15 a.m. that it was not certain how many employees were inside the restaurant, but it was more than one.

Police were still searching the area and investigating the crime scene as of 12:30 a.m.

This is the second time in about five weeks that a Victoria Sonic Drive-In was robbed about closing time.

In early February, a lone gunman wearing a mask and dark clothing entered the Sonic Drive-In at 3603 N. John Stockbauer Drive. The gunman gathered the employees in one area and made off with an undisclosed amount of money. No one was injured in that robbery.

Police have not made any arrests in that case.
