Another holiday season is upon us and for some that means end of year vacations. If you are looking for a great destination idea that's not too far away may I suggest Moody Gardens in Galveston.

My wife and I go at least once a year to Moody Gardens and we've found there's never a shortage of things to do there but around the holidays they really amp it up and this year is no exception.

Going on right now through January 10th is the 14th annual Festival of Lights. Complete with over 1 million lights, an outdoor ice skating rink and an Arctic ice slide, Moody Gardens really does transform into a winter wonderland.

And also, for the kiddos, there's the ever popular Spongebob Squarepants Iceland sculptures exhibit.

Fun facts about the Spongebob exhibit...

Over 2 million pounds of ice was used for the sculptures.....
Some sculptures are 35 feet tall!
The exhibit covers 28,000 square feet in a tent that is kept at a bone chilling 9 degrees!
The last time the outside temperature in Galveston reached 9 degrees was 116 years ago.
The sculptures took a combined 1600 hours to create
If you took all the blocks of ice it took to make all of the sculptures, stacked them up on each other, the end result would be taller than 16 empire state buildings!

Festival of Lights and Spongebob Squarepants Iceland exhibit runs through January 10th. Keep your eyes on our website and facebook page and you could win a family 4 pack to Moody Gardens!
