Iron Maiden and Anthrax to Perform Historic Gig Outside ‘World’s Heaviest Building’

Heavy is certainly a good word to describe the sound of two iconic metal bands Iron Maiden and Anthrax. Both legends have been confirmed to bring their brand of metal to the ‘world’s heaviest building.’ Legitimately named the world’s largest civilian building, most expensive administrative building and world’s heaviest building by the World Records Academy, the Romanian Palace of the Parliament lies adjacent to Constitution Square, which will host a historic outdoor metal concert featuring not only Iron Maiden, but New York thrash legends Anthrax, as well.

Bucharest, Romania’s ‘Palatul Parlamentului’ has a floorspace of 3,700,000 square feet, with one million cubic meters of marble, 3,500 tons of crystal and 700,000 tons of steel and bronze. The lavish building also boasts curtains embroidered with silver and gold. The structure sure sounds impressive, but even though the show is outdoors, we’re thinking the majority of the building’s 480 chandeliers will likely come crashing down during the Iron Maiden / Anthrax concert on July 24.

“We are excited to bring this event to our fans in Romania,” says Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson. “Thanks to modern technology, we were able to update and improve the original production … ‘Maiden England’ brings us an impressive and new light show, stage arrangement, various embodiments of Eddie, lots of pyrotechnics and all sorts of exciting elements.”

Romania will be gifted with a taste of the band’s ‘Maiden England’ setlist, which Iron Maiden brought to North America last year. Along with Maiden mainstay songs ‘The Number of the Beast,’ ‘The Trooper’ and ‘Aces High,’ the British legends also threw in some rare surprises during the tour such as ‘The Prisoner,’ ‘Afraid to Shoot Strangers’ and ‘Seventh Son of a Seventh Son.’

Tickets for Iron Maiden and Anthrax’s performance outside the world’s heaviest building will become available on March 19. British rock band Voodoo Six will open the show.
