For a series with such a specific title as 'How I Met Your Mother,' the series has gone above and beyond these last eight years to tell a wealth of stories at times completely unrelated to the titular mother's identity.  Still, with a ninth season of the show still yet to be locked down, the current may prove to be the last, meaning we'll meet her fairly soon!  The big question is, who could play such a long-hyped role, and what does series star Josh Radnor have to say about it?

'How I Met Your Mother' is no stranger to stunt casting, having brought in the likes of Katy Perry, Britney Spears, and a mother-load for the current season, but that line of thinking is exactly what series lead Josh Radnor hopes to avoid when the series finally unveils its titular mother.  Admitting that show-runners Carter Bays and Craig Thomas keep the stars in the dark about their finite plans for the mother, Radnor recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly hoping that the producers choose a relative unknown for the long-awaited reveal.

I don’t think it should be any sort of stunt casting.  I think it would be more interesting to have this fresh, exciting face that Ted has never seen before and neither have people who watch the show.

'How I Met Your Mother' season 8's premiere "Farhampton" gave us our best look yet at the moment in which Radnor's Ted would meet the woman of his destiny, but as far as anyone knows, the role has yet to be cast.  Should season 8 prove to be the final year after all, producers would likely keep such a reveal tightly guarded.

'How I Met Your Mother' season 8 continues tonight with "Who Wants to Be A Godparent?," so be sure to check it out, and give us your casting ideas for the titular mother in the comments below!
