Let’s face it, when Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger collaborate on a new rock drama at HBO, it’s getting a second season. Still, following an inauspicious start in the ratings, Vinyl has been confirmed for a second season to air in 2017, just one episode into its run.

The ‘70s rock drama only debuted this past Sunday with a two hour pilot, to the tune of 764,000 viewers, or less than half of what shows like The Leftovers pulled by their own premieres. Granted, Vinyl had competition in the form of The Walking Dead’s return, as well as a three-day weekend, and HBO tends not to sweat ratings regardless.

The drama stems from an idea by Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, with Martin Scorsese directing the premiere (and potentially beyond). Bobby Cannavale stars as record label president Richie Finestra, alongside Ray Romano, Olivia Wilde, P.J. Byrne, Juno Temple, Ato Essandoh, Birgitte Sorenson and more.

Vinyl will continue airing its first season Sundays, but was the two-hour premiere worthy of an early renewal on HBO’s part?
