The Fourth of July is right around the corner, which means scores of people will fire up their grills and throw down a wide selection of meat.

Or does it?

For the last decade or so there has been a pretty consistent parade of studies suggesting red meat isn’t so good for you. According to a new NPR-Truven Health Analytics Health survey of 3,000 adults this is starting to change how people eat.

The poll found that 39 percent are eating less red meat than they did three years ago.

Sixty-six percent of those who responded said that they were cutting down on steaks, hamburgers and the like for health reasons. Forty-seven percent cited cost as a factor, while 30 percent were concerned about animal welfare.

Twenty-nine percent are eating less meat out of a concern for the environment.
