A naming contest held for a baby gorilla at a zoo in the Zhejiang Province in Central China has drawn the attention of people in the U.S. and that attention has resulted in over 90% vote for a new name for the baby. That name....Harambe McHarambeface.

As you probably are aware, Harambe was a 17 year old male Lowland Gorilla who was shot and killed in his enclosure at the Cincinnati Zoo after a four-year-old boy fell into its enclosure.

The zoo in China announced the naming contest with the purpose of being local. They never expected it to explode online and move overseas. The name the Chinese public chose was winning in popularity with a couple of hundred votes. When the contest spread, the name Harambe McHarambeface won out with over 75,000 votes.

The zoo is going to honor the Chinese name since there is literally no way to write Harambe McHarambeface in Chinese but they also said they will honor the English name and it will be written on his enclosure plaque.

So if you're ever in that part of China and stop by the zoo. Say hi to Harambe McHarambeface.
