Another area athlete will get a shot in the NFL as Halletsville Sacred Heart grad Cole Wick has signed on the dotted line with the Detroit Lions.

Wick, a tight end who was TAPPS All-State and Victoria Advocate All-Area, went on to University of Incarnate Word, where he averaged 17.5 yards per catch in his junior year, was also 1st-team All-Southland Conference as a senior. In his college career he notched 72 receptions, 890 yards and 6 touchdowns in 39 games.

The 6-foot-6, 290 pound Wick was signed as a free agent with the Lions, will take part in the team's mini camp today and tomorrow.

I've lived here a long time now and am a big Houston Texans fan but, I'm from the Detroit area so, I still root for my hometown Lions.

Can't wait to see another Crossroads  boy make good!
