It all comes down to one game in the Texas Collegiate League Championship Playoffs, following a 7-0 victory over the Brazos Valley Bombers last night in Bryan.

Great pitching was the key, as the Generals pitching staff held the Bombers to just seven hits on the night without allowing a run.  Tyler Schnuriger picked up the win as he tossed the first five innings.  Schnuriger allowed just four hits and one walk and struck out five. Juan Cortina allowed just one hit and one walk in his two innings with two strikeouts.  J.P. Clifton shut the door as he allowed just two hits and struck out three in the final two innings of the game.

The Generals pitching staff was aided by several outstanding defensive plays throughout the night that included diving catches in the outfield by Jacob Hubert and Romeo Cortina and dazzling double plays turned by Alvaro Rondon at shortstop.

Cortina put the Generals on top in the bottom of the first inning as he shot an RBI single to right field to score Alvaro Rondon to give the Generals a 1-0 lead.

The Generals put up four runs in the bottom of the fourth off of Bombers starting pitcher Bryce Rutherford to put the game out of reach.  Brandon Bohanon hit a single in the hole between shortstop and third base to score J.B. Moss.  Rondon then chopped a single over the first baseman’s head to score Bohanon.  Drew Featherston came into score on an RBI groundout by Brandon Hannon and David Paiz, Jr. hit an infield single to score Rondon to make it 5-0.

Cortina added two insurance runs on a two-run single up the middle in the bottom of the eighth inning to score Featherston and Rondon which gave the Generals a 7-0 lead.

Each team has now defended their home field in the best-of-three series. The Bombers will host the Generals for game three at AMB Ballpark in Bryan tonight to determine who will be crowned the 2013 TCL Champions.

Go Generals, baby!!!
