'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,' and the new approach to the 'PotA' films is decidedly different than the tact taken in the 1970's. There, each sequel was given a smaller and smaller budget and with fewer name talents. Not so with 'Dawn,' as it just added Gary Oldman to the cast.

This comes from Coming Soon, where they suggest that Oldman will play a leader of a human colony. He'd be part of the small band of human resistance that's trying to stay alive and ward off the Apes. He'd also be joined by the recently cast Jason Clarke and Kodi Smit-McPhee.

Oldman is having something of a career Renaissance, as he was nominated for his first Oscar in 2012 for his work in 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy' while also being commissioner Gordon in the Christopher Nolan-led Batman franchise. Though he's had many prominent roles through the course of his career (from Sid Vicious to Lee Harvey Olswald to Dracula), it feels like Hollywood finally gets this master actor. And he's keeping busy: He's got 'Paranoia' coming up latter this year, and will be in the delayed 'Robocop' remake next year. ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ is being directed by Matt Reeves, and is scheduled to hit theaters on May 23, 2014
