Eat That Question — Frank Zappa in His Own Words, a documentary about the life of the late musician, will have its world premiere on Monday at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival. Before it has been seen by the public, it has been picked up by Sony Pictures for distribution.

The news comes via The Hollywood Reporter, who quotes director Thorsten Schutte as saying, "I’m delighted and I’m thrilled that Sony Pictures Classics believes in the film and I feel we’re in very good hands. The news of the acquisition is really the cherry on the cake of our world premiere at Sundance."

According to Sundance's page for the film, which has a running time of 88 minutes, Eat That Question is "a sharply edited and energetic celebration of Zappa through his public persona, allowing us to witness his shifting relationship with audiences." The movie, which is not authorized by the Zappa family, uses TV interviews and performances that show Zappa as "a charismatic composer who reveled in the joy of performing and, in the next moment, a fiercely intelligent and brutally honest interviewee whose convictions only got stronger as his career ascended."

That description is evidenced by a quote in the trailer, which can be viewed above. "I make music because it's the same as going to the toilet," Zappa said. "So if I'm still going to the toilet when I'm 60 or 70, I'll still be making music."

Three of the four screenings of Eat That Question at Sundance are sold out.
