Fourth Fatality Reported in South by Southwest Tragedy

Screen Capture /

We’re sad to report that a fourth person has died following the South by Southwest (SXSW) drunk driving incident. At the young age of 18, DeAndre Tatum passed away yesterday (March 27) after being in critical condition for two weeks.

The iconic celebration of music known as SXSW was tragically tainted this year after 21-year-old Rashad Charjuan Owens smashed through a barricade while attempting to avoid a drunk driving stop. Owens reportedly injured over 20 people after the crash, four of whom eventually dying from injuries sustained.

According to KXAN, DeAndre Tatum died earlier today, bringing the total death toll to four. Sandy Le, 26, Jamie West, 27, and Steven Craenmehr, 35, were also killed in the crash.

Rashad Owens, who has already been charged with capital murder, is currently in police custody with bail set at $3 million. After being treated for minor injuries himself, Owens took a breath test which resulted in a .114 blood alcohol content, well over the Texas legal limit of .08.

We’d like to extend out deepest sympathies to the family and friends of DeAndre Tatum and the other three deceased victims.
