Both Foreigner and Cheap Trick made quick work of their opponents in the opening round of this month's Ultimate Classic Rock Hall of Fame battle. Now they'll have to duke it out against each other to reach the finals.

Foreigner muscled past Peter Gabriel with just over 60 percent of the vote, riding their decade-long string of hit singles and multi-platinum records to victory; meanwhile, Cheap Trick blasted past the Clash with a bit more than 70 percent of the ballots cast in their contest.

At their respective commercial peaks during the '70s and '80s, both bands found a way to walk the line between harder-edged uptempo rock and radio-friendly slower songs, and they both managed to perfect the power ballad formula during its heyday, with Foreigner hauling in a gospel choir for 1984's No. 1 smash 'I Want to Know What Love Is' and Cheap Trick soundtracking countless proms with 1988's 'The Flame.' And although both bands focus on live performance these days, they remain sporadically active in the studio; Foreigner's most recent collection of new material, 'Can't Slow Down,' came out in 2009, while Cheap Trick released 'The Latest' that same year.

So who's going to get your vote? You can decide once an hour between now and when voting ends on Sunday, July 20 at 11:59PM EST. The next inductee into the Ultimate Classic Rock Hall of Fame will be announced on Aug. 1. Be sure to read our official rules.
