This afternoon (Feb. 27) at 3PM Eastern, Sir Elton John will perform in front of the former Tower Records location on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood. John's concert coincides with his annual viewing party for tomorrow night's Academy Awards, a benefit for the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

"The City of West Hollywood has welcomed the Elton John AIDS Foundation and our annual Academy Awards Viewing Party with open arms for many years, providing us with the perfect environment to host a really fun and special evening,” said Elton John in a press release. “We are profoundly grateful for their generous support, so I wanted to do something special just for them by giving our West Hollywood fans and supporters a surprise concert. Thank you, West Hollywood!"

John's concert will be streamed over at AOL.com and is co-sponsored by AOL BUILD and BBVA Compass. "At AOL we are committed to the live experience and its ability to bring offline moments online for audiences in a unique and immersive way" Jimmy Maymann, an AOL executive vice president, said. "We can't think of a better partner than Elton John - his iconic stature spans generations and we're excited for the opportunity to bring this incredible experience to his fans and our millions of viewers worldwide."

According to the press release, the concert will be 60 minutes long and consist of both his classic hits and selections from his most recent album, Wonderful Crazy Night.

This will be the 24th year that the wonderful, crazy knight and his husband David Furnish are throwing a party before the Academy Awards. Last year's event raised $5.8 million for John's foundation, which has raised more than $349 million to "combat stigma, prevent infections, provide treatment and services, and motivate governments to end AIDS" since it was founded in 1992.
