It seems like the fast is disappearing from the ‘fast food.’

A new study has found that the average drive-thru time at seven fast food chains rose more than eight seconds from last year. It took about 180.83 seconds to complete an order, compared to 172.64 seconds last year.

The study focused on seven restaurants -- Burger King, Chick-fil-A, Krystal, McDonald's, Taco Bell, Taco John's, and Wendy’s.

Here’s a look at how the chains fared:

  • Wendy’s 133.63 seconds
  • Taco Bell – 158.03 seconds
  • Taco John’s 181.19 seconds
  • McDonald’s – 189.49 second
  • Burger King – 198.48 seconds
  • Chick-fil-A – 203.88 seconds
  • Krystal – 217.89 seconds

Burger King was the lone eatery whose time improved from last year, which apparently came at a price – it had the worst accuracy rate, getting only 82.3% of drive-thru orders right. That’s below the 87.2% average and far below industry leader Chick-fil-A, which got 91.6% of drive-thru orders correct.

As for why drive-thru times may be on the rise, well, pundits claim menus are getting more complicated as chains spruce up the items they offer, including healthier alternatives that may take a little longer to make.
