Dream Theater Thank Fans After Winning Loudwire’s 2013 Metal Madness
Dream Theater‘s fans are a dedicated bunch and the love definitely goes both ways. Band members John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess recently took some time to record video messages to thank their fans for pushing the group’s ‘Images and Words’ album to victory in Loudwire’s very own 2013 March Metal Madness competition to determine the best metal album of all-time. Watch both video messages below.
The band took out a number of metal’s heavyweights along the way, besting Dio‘s ‘Holy Diver’ in the first round, AC/DC‘s ‘Back in Black’ in round two and Judas Priest‘s ‘Screaming for Vengeance’ in the regional finals. Once Dream Theater’s ‘Images and Words’ album reached the final four, they won two very hard-fought battles, first beating Megadeth‘s ‘Rust in Peace’ and finally emerging the victor over Metallica‘s ‘Master of Puppets.’ The final round alone registered over a quarter million votes between the two bands, with Dream Theater securing 58 percent of the final tally.
Petrucci, the band’s guitar virtuoso, checked in from the studio, stating, “The poll included so many classic metal albums and ‘Master of Puppets’ is one of my favorites of all-time, so your support and enthusiasm for the band really means the world to us. Thank you so much.”
Keyboardist Jordan Rudess expressed his gratitude for the support, as well, remarking, “We defeated Metallica’s ‘Master of Puppets,’ which as we all know, that’s just an amazing, stupendous album. So it’s extremely flattering. I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. It means a whole lot to me and it means a whole lot to all of us that you guys are so united and you guys are so over the top awesome.”
Meanwhile, Dream Theater are making big progress on a new album. The band gave a progress update in a newly posted message. It reads, “As of today, all writing, drum and guitar tracking (with the exception of solos) for the new DT album is complete! Will finish up bass next week…pumped!!” Stay tuned for more from Dream Theater, coming soon.
