Apartment Complex Orders Dog DNA Tests to Make Sure Owners Clean Poop
If you don’t clean up after your dog, your pockets may suffer.
That’s the message being sent from one apartment complex in Riverdale, New Jersey to dog owners who live there.
The Grande of Riverdale is instituting a new policy in which dog owners will have to get their pets’ mouths swabbed for DNA, which can be used for testing when waste is found on the premises.
A letter sent to residents said the measure was being taken because of a “small percentage of residents who have not been doing their due diligence.”
After samples are given, those owners who do not remove the fecal matter from the grounds will be fined $250 the first time, with the punishment going as high as $1,000.
Another complex in Massachusetts has already tried the DNA testing and the results have been noticeable – there’s been a 90% cut in the amount of waste gone left behind.
