It's pretty special when you can brag on our local UHV sports teams, and even more so, when one of our players gets recognized by the conference. University of Houston-Victoria's Stiven Ospina became the Jaguar to earn Association Independent Institution Conference Male Athlete of the Week honors this for the 2012-13 year.

Ospina, a junior forward for the UHV men's soccer team, was selected today as the A.I.I. Conference Male Athlete of the Week for his performance during the week of Oct. 22-28.

Ospina scored a goal in all three matches during the week for the Jaguars as UHV clinched its first postseason berth into the A.I.I. Conference Tournament. He helped guide the Jaguars to wins over Huston-Tillotson, Our Lady of the Lake and University of the Southwest. Along with his three goals, he also had one assist and converted three of his eight shots of goal into scores. He now has a team-leading seven goals on the season.

Jamestown College's Amber Ramlo was named the A.I.I. Female Athlete of the Week.
