Watch Chewbacca ‘Disarm’ an Enemy in This ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Deleted Scene

While Star Wars: The Force Awakens was an international smash hit, it wasn’t devoid of criticism. Some people felt that the film veered a little close to the storyline of the original Star Wars film; others felt that the family friendly action didn’t quite line up with the darker tone they expected from movies like The Empire Strikes Back and Revenge of the Sith. So to those fans, I offer you the above deleted scene (via i09) where Chewbacca rips out the arm of Unkar Plutt. It may be another throwback to the original movies, but at least it’s one with a little bit of bite.

Watch Cate Blanchett Play 13 Different Characters in the ‘Manifesto’ Trailer

Despite being around for more than a century, one of the major failings of cinema as an art-form is that it hasn’t found a way to make an entire film where Cate Blanchett plays every single role. Thankfully, 2017 will bring that horrifying streak to a close with Manifesto, a film adaptation of the Julian Rosefeldt art installation that will feature Blanchett in a total of 13 different roles. The only downside is that we’re going to have a tough time adjusting back to the non-Cate Blanchett characters out there. It all seems like such a waste of time now.

Headshots and Trumpets Abound in This ‘John Wick’ Supercut

There’s nothing quite as much fun as a perfectly conceived and executed supercut. Whether it’s a compilation of movie scenes where Nic Cage loses his mind or a movie dialogue version of one of Lionel Richie’s classic songs, a good supercut is the perfect piece of digital ephemera for movie lovers everywhere. And while most supercuts are fan-made labors of love, at least one studio has noticed the attention given to them and planned its marketing accordingly. So it was that the John Wick ‘Symphony of Violence’ supercut was given unto us, and it was very, very good.

‘Raw’ Trailers Tease a Ravenous Coming-of-Age in This Festival Favorite

With films like The Witch and The Invitation, 2016 was a great year for horror, and the genre certainly isn’t slacking in 2017 — in addition to the all-female-directed anthology XX, this year sees the release of Raw, the French coming-of-age cannibal horror film which marks the feature directorial debut of Julia Ducournau. Already a hit on the 2016 festival circuit (where it made a few audience members ill), Raw is an early contender for this year’s best-of lists. You can see why for yourself as these new green and red-band trailers offer a little taste (sorry) of what’s in store.

‘CHIPS’ Trailer: California, It’s Time to Party

You tilted your head to the side and went, “Huh,” when you first heard about it. You said to yourself, “Oh yeah, I’d forgotten about that,” when you saw casting news about it. Now, you can see it for yourself — or, at least, two minutes and forty-two seconds of it: Dax Shepard’s CHiPs movie remake finally has its very first trailer.

The Onion’s Three-Movie Development Deal Is No Joke

Now that falsehoods have become almost entirely indistinguishable from fact in the American news media, the staffers of satirical publication The Onion can sit back and relax, having effectively taken over the industry they set out to spoof. (Full disclosure: I contribute to the A.V. Club, a division of the Onion media empire.) But instead of resting on their laurels, the originators of ‘fake news’ have set out to conquer new frontiers, having already moved into publishing and the untamed wilds of television. A new exclusive from the Hollywood Reporter indicates that not even the movie theaters of this great nation will be safe from the increasingly plausible absurdities of America’s self-proclaimed ‘finest news source.’

Red-Band ‘Death Race 2050’ Trailer Looks Incredible, May Have Cost Twelve Dollars

Does America really need another Death Race movie, considering the fact that America is approximately a year and a half out from living out its own insanely budgeted real-life Death Race sequel? Or do we, in fact, need a new Death Race movie now more than ever? As we rapidly hurtle towards our own dystopian world, can’t we look to the upcoming Death Race 2050 as a guide, a bloody roadmap for the deranged years to come? In order — yes, yes, and yes. (Note: this lede can be easily recycled for news concerning other apocalyptic franchises such as Mad Max, Terminator, and Bad Moms.)

New ‘The Space Between Us’ Trailer Depicts Earth As Maybe Not So Terrible

As the past year or so has made abundantly clear, Earth is a bad place to live. If we don’t drain the plant’s natural resources, pollute the atmosphere to the point of toxicity, or drown beneath rising water levels, humanity could take the more direct route and wipe itself out through global nuclear war. Fascism and other forms of extremism have cropped up around the world like so many megalomaniacal dandelions, and Netflix still hasn’t added the fourth season of The Twilight Zone due to licensing complications. Everything is bad, and yet the upcoming sci-fi romance The Space Between Us boldly asks, “What if life on Earth was... good actually?”

‘The Lure’ Trailer: Drunks, Debaucery, Pop Music, Oh, and Man-Eating Mermaidsh

Mermaids: pretty, kind half-human half-fish people who love to swim with little fish and sing and comb their hair with dinglehoppers, who just happen to also have a taste for human flesh. The Disneyfied version of Ariel tones that last aspect of their behavior way down, but in actual mermaid lore, the creatures get their sustenance by luring sailors overboard so they can feast on their flesh. The new film The Lure, debut of Polish filmmaker Agnieszka Smoczynska, made plenty of waves touring the festival circuit last year, and is about to make port in the U.S. with its first trailer.

‘Rings’ Trailer: The Internet Is Evil, But You Already Knew That

Any contemporary sequel to The Ring would have to incorporate the internet, and why not? It just makes sense. Destroying a videotape is one thing, but how do you stop a haunted video once it’s been uploaded to the seemingly infinite void known as the worldwide web? You can’t. Such is the premise for Rings, the repeatedly-delayed sequel to Gore Verbinski’s 2002 remake of the Japanese horror classic which has a brand-new trailer ahead of its February release.

‘The Girl With All the Gifts’ Trailer Gives a New Face to the Zombie Apocalypse Genre

The zombie apocalypse heyday has seemingly come and gone, leaving us with a few truly inspired gems like 28 Days Later, Zombieland, and Shaun of the Dead. But, much like zombies themselves, the genre just doesn’t die, leaving plenty of opportunity for filmmakers to test out their own reimaginings of a familiar trope. This, as it turns out, is a good thing, as in the wake of zombie movie madness comes The Girl With All the Gifts.
