God Gets Cranky in Neill Blomkamp’s Latest Oats Studio Short ‘God: Serengeti’

Despite the runaway success of Neill Blomkamp’s District 9, the writer-director has faced increasingly diminishing returns as a filmmaker ever since. Whiz-bang visuals and an impressive cast weren’t enough to save Elysium, while Chappie has become better known in film circles as an internet meme (“That’s Chappie!”) than a film worth seeking out. Add in Blomkamp’s failed attempt at an Alien sequel and it seemed the director’s star had fully faded… that is, until Blomkamp announced his decision to create a serious of outrageous and expensive short films at zero cost to the public.

Hans Zimmer Dropped an Intense Track From the ‘Dunkirk’ Score, and It’s Really Good

Hans Zimmer has become kind of the rockstar of movie soundtracks (I mean, he did literally play a set at Coachella this year). Zimmer’s been scoring Christopher Nolan’s movies ever since Batman Begins, so it’s no surprise that he’s back for Nolan’s World War II thriller Dunkirk, and man, is he back. WaterTower Music just released the fourth track off the score, titled “Supermarine,” and it’s intense.

Halle Berry is getting her own Taken in Kidnap, which escalates steadily from a child abduction drama into the John Wick of child abduction dramas. When a mother’s kid is stolen, a parent would do anything to get them back. In the newest trailer for Kidnap, Berry does everything.

See Sony’s Mysterious Teaser Trailer for the ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’ Re-Release

While you and I may know July 3rd as “Fasting in Anticipation of Tomorrow’s Onslaught of Grilled Meats Day,” a certain subset of conspiracy-monger recognizes it as World UFO Day. Apparently, one such believer resides at Sony, as the studio released a mysterious new video on the 3rd and included the hashtag #WorldUFODay in the caption on YouTube. In it, a glowing green air traffic controller’s matrix appears on screen with some slightly-garbled dialogue in the background about an enigmatic foreign craft entering their airspace. While some may find its significance confounding, Spielberg fans recognized the clip straightaway.

You Can Watch the Opening Scene of ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Right Now

Sony knows that it’s summertime and in the summer traffic can be bad. So bad, even, that you might be running late to the movie theater and miss the first few minutes of Spider-Man: Homecoming this weekend. I personally have a rule that if I miss more than the first few minutes of a movie, I skip the whole thing for another showing. So in case you’re worried about missing the beginning of Homecoming because some jerk decided to hit the emergency break on the subway, have no fear. Sony just released the first four minutes of their new Spidey outing.

James Gunn Has Narrowed His ‘GotG3’ Soundtrack Down to ‘181 Songs’

If you spend enough time reading interviews with writer-directors, you may find yourself wondering how big a role music plays in the creative process. Hollywood is littered with movies that were written under the influence of a particularly strong playlist; filmmakers who have been given control over every aspect of production, from screenplay the final cut, can sometimes appear to be writing to the music that influenced them along the way. That’s one of the beautiful things about the work of James Gunn. Not only does he exhibit a delightfully eclectic taste in ’70s and ’80s music, he often finds ways to bring those songs directly into the action of his Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.

Will Ferrell Confirms Mariah Carey’s ‘The House’ Cameo Horror Story

In a summer where most raunchy comedies seem to be flopping at the box office  —  Rough Night and Baywatch have certainly disappointed with their reviews and box office ratings — it looks like it might all come down to The House. The Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler comedy certainly has what it takes to win over fans; Ferrell and Poehler are both comedy stars in their own right, and the supporting cast features a mix of comedy veterans and rising stars who can and should sell every joke in the film.

Circle Michael Keaton’s Vulture in This New ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Feature

Is it strange that Marvel keeps releasing features for Spider-Man: Homecoming? The film is already riding a wave of critical and audience praise; many who have seen it have suggested that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is the best of the bunch, with the movie itself sitting near the top of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Homecoming has been the subject of trailers, features, commercials, and everything in between, and if I have any complaint with the way Disney operates, it’s this: don’t keep selling after you close the deal, my dude! We’re all super excited to see the continuing adventures of Peter Parker on the big screen.

‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Ride to Replace ‘Wench Auction’ With Something Way Less Uncomfortable to Watch

The Pirates of the Caribbean ride in Disneyland and Disney World is a fun time: Jack Sparrow is there, planning another one of his escapades amongst scenes that are half new and half a collection of greatest hits from the movies. One of these original scenes, the “Wench Auction” will no longer be a part of the ride, Disney Parks announced today. Instead, it will be replaced with something way less uncomfortable and, hopefully, more entertaining.

New ‘Valerian’ Clip Introduces Us to Alpha, the City of a Thousand Weird-Looking Alien Species

Luc Besson’s new sci-fi movie looks absolutely gorgeous, mostly due to the insane amount of worldbuilding it took to create the giant spaceport-like city of Alpha, which houses around a thousand species from all over the galaxy. A new clip introduces us to the City of a Thousand Planets, which is more like the City of a Thousand Weird-Looking Aliens, providing some exposition for our two heroes, Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne).
