K-2SO Goes Into Very Reluctant Action in the Latest ‘Rogue One’ Trailer

If you’ve been following the Rogue One rumors and production for the past two years, you probably don’t understand why Disney keeps releasing new television spots. Do people still need a new commercial to help make up their minds? It turns out the answer is yes: I sat down for some football with his in-laws on Thanksgiving Day and heard shocked exclamations about a new Star Wars movie after a Rogue One commercial played during a break. Based on the time I spent explaining to the group where Rogue One fits in the Star Wars universe, I’m pretty sure I should bill Disney for marketing services rendered.

New ‘Rogue One’ TV Spot: Krennic Has ‘Immeasurable Powah’ and K-2SO is More Helpful Than He Thinks

Disney aired The Wonderful World of Disney Holiday Celebration last night, and along with it came a special sneak peek at the new Star Wars movie Rogue One. Introduced by an extremely pleased Disney CEO Bob Iger, the TV spot has a lot of footage we’ve already seen in trailers before, but also a few bits we haven’t. And for those of you itching to get tickets, according to the Star Wars official Twitter account they’ll be available on Monday.

The 25 Blu-rays Every Movie Lover Must Own

Given how much space physical media takes up, it’s hard for movie buffs to say no to the great promise of “cloud storage,” and the idea that we could summon anything we want to watch with just a couple of clicks. But so far, reality hasn’t matched the hype. Streaming services have been focused on exclusives and original programming, to the extent that the only way to have access to everything available is to spend hundreds of dollars a month on subscription fees. Meanwhile, older films keep disappearing from the digital archives; and even items that cinephiles “own” sometimes become inaccessible whenever software updates or a site shutters.

What’s Expiring From Netflix Instant: December 2016

Netflix may be giving us Captain America: Civil War on Christmas (and many more great additions next month), but there are also several titles expiring from the service in December, including — gasp — every season of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. Okay, you might not be all that concerned about Kevin Sorbo’s biceps, but chances are there’s at least one or two things on this list of expiring movies and TV shows that you’ll probably want to watch before they leave Netflix next month.

Robert De Niro Is an Insult Comic in First Trailer for ‘The Comedian’

It’s been a rough year and at the end of 2016 nothing would be more needed and appreciated by American audiences than a good ol’ comedy. It’s too bad the first trailer for Robert De Niro’s The Comedian isn’t, um, very funny.

The Latest ‘Rogue One’ TV Spot Puts the ‘War’ Back in ‘Star Wars’

Even with a little bit of distance from their initial release, there’s not a lot to enjoy about the Star Wars prequels. They’re still poorly acted, overly reliant on CGI, and too bogged down in origin stories instead of developing new characters for us to care about. That being said, give credit to George Lucas for writing a powerful arc for Senator Palpatine. Palpatine’s methodical dissolution of the Old Republic  —  and our mounting horror as we watch him convince the galaxy to give up freedom in exchange for a false sense of safety  —  aren’t enough to save the Star Wars prequels entirely, but they do represent some of the smartest writing of Lucas’ career.

‘Kong: Skull Island’ Trailer Tease: All Hail the King

Kong’s helicopter hatred continues in the new trailer tease for Kong: Skull Island that the movie’s official Twitter account posted earlier today. In the 9-second clip, the big gorilla can be seen with both halves of a helicopter in either paw, ready to smash them into the ground. It’s an extremely cool shot, one that shows the immensity of Kong from below and makes him look way scarier and more primordial than he’s looked in any movie thus far.

For the rest of us, something even better was announce: the first theatrical trailer for Ghost in the Shell is here, and it is not exactly short on style.
